This project involved the creation of a comprehensive landscape plan for a new 250-unit residential development located at the transitional edge between South Boston’s historic industrial zone and its dense triple-decker neighborhoods. Approved by the Boston Planning Department (BPD), the development responds to the area's critical need for housing and public open space through a blend of private and publicly accessible landscape features.
The site design includes The Yard, an at-grade public pocket park conceived as a vibrant space for community gathering, circulation, and multi-use activities. Carefully articulated hardscape elements—such as custom paving and curbing—reinforce these intentions, while a permeable planting strategy reflects a core design value: ecological and spatial permeability.
In addition to the public realm, the project includes three distinct resident-only roof decks, each programmed to meet specific lifestyle needs. These include a dog run, a dedicated social/gathering space for private events, and a more casual area for everyday use. Each was designed to encourage regular engagement, supporting the long-term success and livability of the development.
To gain city approval and facilitate clear communication with stakeholders, a suite of supporting graphics was developed, including section elevations, 3D renderings, and circulation diagrams—each helping to convey the landscape’s function, character, and integration within the broader urban fabric.
