This project focused on reimagining the landscape surrounding a 4-story residential building in the Coolidge Corner neighborhood of Brookline. The primary goal was to modernize and enhance the exterior environment—creating an inviting and functional space for current residents, attracting future tenants, and improving overall curb appeal.
Key design objectives included the integration of new retaining walls and strategic tree planting to offset removals, ensuring a sustainable and balanced approach to site improvements.
The centerpiece of the design is a multi-use bluestone patio, thoughtfully divided into two zones: one for grilling and outdoor dining, and another for relaxed lounging. Adjacent to the patio, a new retaining wall regrades the rear yard, creating a usable, level lawn area ideal for recreation or pet use.
At the front of the property, mature evergreen shrubs were preserved to maintain privacy between ground-floor units and the street. Additional evergreens were introduced in areas where existing screening was insufficient. The front yard was redesigned to feature expanded planting beds and reduced lawn coverage, helping to soften the building’s presence and create a more cohesive connection to the surrounding residential fabric.
